| The Madison Riding Club (originally called the Shorewood Hills Riding Academy) had its stables at about where 3330 University Avenue stands today. It was established about 1928 when the area was still quite rural. For many years, village residents could rent horses here and ride through the village to the University of Wisconsin grounds, where bridal trails existed. The route through the village started on Tally Ho Lane (hence its name), then Harvard Drive, Beloit Court, and Colgate Road, entering the campus just north of 1015 University Bay Drive. The stables were converted into a furniture store after World War II, and the building was demolished about 1990. Advertisement from the Yellow Pages of the Madison Telephone Directory of 1946. |
