Eric and Beth Heiden, outstanding speed skaters, grew up in Shorewood Hills. At the 1980 winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY, Beth won a bronze medal in the 3000 meter race. Eric Heiden won five gold medals, the most medals ever won by a single person, in the 500, 1000, 1500, 5000, and 10,000 meter races. Time Magazine February 11, 1980 |
